Unmourned Grief
You carry a loss the world never called a loss. This is the room where it finally gets the standing it was denied, and the mourning it never received.
Some losses come with casseroles and cards and a week off work. Yours didn't. It might have been an estrangement, a miscarriage, a friendship that ended, a version of your life that never happened, a person whose death you weren't supposed to grieve out loud. Whatever it was, the message you absorbed was that it didn't count, that you had no right to fall apart over it, so you didn't. You moved forward carrying it instead of moving through it, and it's still there, unmet, years later, heavier for never having been set down.
Grief that isn't allowed doesn't disappear. It waits. This room is where you give it what it never got: the acknowledgment that it was real, and that you were allowed to grieve it all along.
What’s actually happening
When a loss is disenfranchised, when the people around you, or the culture, or your own inner rules, decide it doesn't qualify as grief, you're left with the full weight of the sorrow and none of the support that normally helps carry it. Mourning is partly a social act; it needs witness and permission to move. Denied that, the grief goes underground and stays raw, because it never got to do the work grief does when it's allowed out. The task here isn't to finally "get over" the loss. It's to give the grief standing, to mourn what you were never permitted to mourn, so the love inside it can finally move instead of sitting frozen.
