Finding Your Footing

Something ended or changed, and the floor isn't where it used to be. This is the work of steadying yourself when the ground shifts, whatever kind of transition you're in.

You keep reaching for solid ground and finding air. The routines that used to hold your days have loosened, the roles that told you who you were have changed, and even small decisions feel harder than they should, because the frame you made them inside is gone. Maybe the change was a loss, maybe it was a good thing you chose, and either way you're surprised by how unsteady you feel, and maybe a little ashamed of it, because you thought you'd handle it better than this. From the outside it might look like you're managing. Inside, you're feeling for a floor that keeps not being there.

That unsteadiness is not weakness, and it isn't a sign you made the wrong choice. It's what happens when the structure you balanced on changes. This room is about finding your footing on the new ground, at the pace steadiness actually returns.

What’s actually happening

Much of our stability is quietly borrowed from the familiar: the same commute, the same house full of people, the same title, the same shape to a week. When a major transition changes that structure, the loss of the scaffolding shows up as disorientation, indecision, and a jittery sense that nothing is solid, even when the change itself was welcome. This is a normal response to a real shift, not a disorder, and trying to force yourself straight back to full confidence tends to backfire, because there's no old normal to return to. Yarrow, an old wound-herb, steadies and helps close what's open; the steadying here works the same way, not by pretending the ground didn't move, but by helping you build new footing on the ground that's actually there now. It comes back in pieces: a rebuilt routine, a decision made and survived, a new sense of who you are on this side of the change.
